Social workers, healthcare professionals, behavioral specialists, and dedicated early development professionals make up Northwest Michigan Infant Mental Health.

Our board members represent some of the leading early childhood organizations in the area, including:

  • Rosa Breneman, LMSW, IMH-E

    is proud to serve on the board of the Northwest Michigan Chapter of the Association of Infant Mental Health (NWMI-AIMH), where she was president from 2021–2023. She recently retired from Early On after 19 years of home-based work supporting parents and children with developmental needs. Rosa’s passion for connecting families with resources has guided her career across multiple roles in child and family services. Bilingual in Spanish, she continues to assist families through interpreting services. Married for 36 years with two grown children, Rosa also enjoys painting, crafting, event planning, and creating charcuterie boards.

  • Robin Lagerquist LLBSW, IMH-E

    is a case manager for Generations Ahead with an Infant Mental Health Endorsement as an Infant Family Associate and has over 10 years experience working to support families. At Generations Ahead Robin strives to empower teen and young adult parents to become resilient by building positive relationships, strengthening family stability, and raising healthy children.  Robin is proud to be serving alongside caring professionals who also have a passion for helping young families. Robin has been married for 13 years and is the mother of one grown son.  In her free time she can be found hiking with her dog, outside enjoying nature, reading, knitting, and spending time with family and friends.

  • Courtney Yaple, LLMSW, IMH-E

    is a mother of two and a Clinical Social Worker with an endorsement in Infant Mental Health at the Benzie-Leelanau District Health Department. Courtney has over 10 years of experience working with children and families and she is honored to companion them as they navigate the joys and challenges of raising children. Courtney comes to this role with the understanding that every family has strengths and is deserving of living the lives they desire, within a community that cares for all its’ young children and families. Courtney is proud to serve on the board of the NW MI-AIMH chapter to work alongside the wonderful professionals and families promoting community-wide infant mental health.

  • Mike Acosta

    is a father, a grandfather, and a social worker licensed for clinical and macro social work. He has worked in child welfare, school social work, substance abuse prevention and community mental health. He currently lives in Northport and maintains a small private practice in Traverse City. He has been a student and advocate of infant mental health since 1976 and has served as Board member and treasurer of the northwest chapter of the Michigan Association for Infant Mental Health since 2016. Mike is endorsed as an Infant Mental Health Mentor (Policy).

  • Larisa Galnares

    is a social worker and the Family Engagement Mentor for the Head Start Programs at Northwest Michigan Community Action Agency. With over 13 years of experience in early childhood programs, she supports children and families by building strong relationships and using strength-based practices. In addition to her work with Head Start, Larisa is a Family Service Credential Trainer with the Portage Project, where she helps develop and mentor professionals in family engagement and early childhood support, promoting best practices that enhance family partnerships and healthy child development. Larisa is committed to building strong community connections that help families thrive. Outside of work, Larisa enjoys many winter and summer outdoor activities and loves spending time with her family and two dogs.

  • Megan Brown

    is Chief Marketing and Communications Officer for Munson Healthcare. She leads communications, marketing, community health programs and community engagement for Northern Michigan’s largest healthcare system. Before joining Munson Healthcare, Brown was Executive Director of Corporate Communications at Michigan’s largest utility. Earlier in her career, she served as Deputy Press Secretary to former Michigan Governor Jennifer M. Granholm. She holds a B.A. from Michigan State University and an MBA from The University of Michigan. Megan lives in Traverse City, MI with her husband and two young sons.

  • Jen Green

    Jen Green

    is a registered nurse and the coordinator for childbirth education for Munson Healthcare. In her role, she teaches a variety of classes designed to educate and support families as they prepare for pregnancy, childbirth, and parenthood. She also works as a labor and delivery nurse at Munson’s Grayling and Gaylord hospitals, where she provides hands-on care to expectant mothers and their families. Jennifer is dedicated to delivering evidence-based education and is passionate about empowering women and their families to make informed decisions as they welcome their little one into the world. Outside of her professional life, she enjoys spending time with her husband, two sons, and two fur-babies.

  • Shannon Olshove, MS, IMH-E

    Shannon earned a masters in clinical psychology in 1997 and worked for 14 years as a clinical psychologist at Pine Rest. Since 2009, she has worked for Early On performing developmental evaluations and home-based developmental guidance for infants and toddlers. She has a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology, as well as specialized training in Perinatal Mood Disorders and Infant Mental Health. Shannon currently facilitates the Rooted Beginnings Perinatal Support Group. She has also facilitated several Mom Power attachment based parenting groups. Shannon has served on the NW Chapter of the Michigan Association of Infant Mental Health board for over 10 years and currently has the role of Secretary. Shannon and her husband, Eric, are both Traverse City natives and are the parents of 2 adult children.

  • Kim Micham

    serves as the Family Engagement Coordinator for the Head Start programs at Northwest Michigan Community Action Agency, drawing on more than 19 years of hands-on experience in Early Childhood education. Over her career, Kim has supported a diverse range of families—from teen parents to grandparents raising grandchildren—offering guidance and encouragement along the way. She has facilitated workshops focused on stress management and resilience, equipping both parents and caregivers with practical tools to thrive amidst life’s challenges. In her current role, Kim is a supervisor for staff sharing her expertise and fostering a culture of compassion and teamwork so that every family receives comprehensive care. Outside of work, she’s been married for 21 years, with two grown children, two grown stepchildren, and three energetic grandchildren.  Her hobbies—reading, scrapbooking, painting, and treasure-hunting along the beach—aren’t just pastimes; they fuel her creativity and help her build genuine connections with others. At the heart of Kim’s approach is a deep belief in the power of relationships. Kim is proud to serve on the board of the NW MI-AIMH chapter to work alongside the wonderful professionals and families promoting community-wide infant mental health.

  • Sabrina Purdy

     is the Program Manager for the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services across Benzie, Manistee, and Mason counties. With more than 16 years of experience in child welfare, she brings deep expertise in supporting children and families through complex systems, strengthening early childhood well-being, and promoting trauma-informed practice. Sabrina is a dedicated advocate for infant mental health and has long worked to elevate the importance of early attachment, caregiver support, and responsive intervention in the first years of life. Her background includes experience as a doula and breastfeeding support advocate, roles that further shaped her commitment to nurturing secure caregiver–infant relationships from the very beginning. As both a professional and a mother of three, Sabrina integrates practical understanding with professional insight, consistently centering the needs of infants and families in her work. Outside of her professional life, Sabrina enjoys traveling, hiking, gardening, crafting, and reading; activities that keep her grounded, inspired, and connected to the world around her.
